AI increasingly a threat to jobs

The Seattle Times reports that GM’s recent announcement to cut 14,800 jobs in U.S. and Canada to free up $4.5 billion for electric and self-driving vehicles is a recent example of how artificial intelligence (AI) is steadily replacing the workforce. Transportation jobs aren’t the only ones threatened by an autonomous future: auto-supply workers will become less and less needed because electric engines require 5 percent as many parts as gasoline versions do.
