Washington introduces a new apple: The Cosmic Crisp

Crosscut reports that Bruce Barritt, Ph.D., has created a new variety of apple known as WA 38 or the “Cosmic Crisp,” which is a combination of Honeycrisp and Enterprise apples. Barritt, a retired professor of apple breeding at Washington State University, has worked on developing the new apple since the mid-1990s and he expects growers to invest half a billion dollars planting the crop over the next few years.
