U.S. lawmakers ask to reinstate market access programs

43 members of Congress led by U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) sent a letter to the House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Michael Conaway (R-TX) and Ranking Member Collin Peterson (D-MN) praising the work done by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) trade and export market development programs at the Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS).

The members requested that the Committee leaders reauthorize the USDA’s Foreign Market Development Program and the Market Access Program to help farmers create and sustain access to foreign markets. The lawmakers also request that the Committee incorporate provisions of Newhouse’s Cultivating Revitalization by Expanding American Agriculture Trade and Exports (CREAATE) Act in the 2018 farm bill.
