How the smoke affects farmworkers

Northwest Public Broadcasting reports that wildfire smoke across the Pacific Northwest is causing farmworkers to cover up using face masks or bandanas to be able to continue work. Washington’s Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) does not require employers to provide masks at work; however, wet towels or bandanas do not fully protect workers from the smoke.
